Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a style of yoga popularized in the 20th century by K. Pattabhi Jois, often promoted today as a classical form of Indian yoga. He claims to have learned the system from his teacher, Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. An energetic style that synchronizes breath with movement, the individual poses (asanas) are linked together by fluid movements (vinyasas).
